Schram Haus Brewery is a German-inspired brewery in Chaska. We are focused on our community and emphasize German-Style brews year-round. Some of our more frequently brewed German-Style beers include: Hefeweizen, Schwarzbier, Doppelbock, Maibock, Weizenbock, Marzen, Gose, Berliner Weisse, Munich-Style Helles, Kolsch, Keller Pils, Munich Dunkel, and many more. We also offer many more contemporary styles as well that fill over half of our taplines throughout the year. Schram Haus is a part of Schram Enterprises which also operates Schram Vineyards and Brewery in Waconia and AxeBridge Wine Co. in Minneapolis. Our Brewery operates with a 7bbl brewhouse with 9 fermenters and two brite tanks in the cellar. We produce around 650bbl a year and sell over 90% of our beer in our taprooms

As Assistant Brewer at Schram Haus, you will assist with brewing, packaging, cleaning and maintenance duties at the brewery while providing support to the brewhouse and cellar as directed by the Head Brewer. Duties will include, assisting with brewing and packaging beer (kegging and bottling), taking gravities and pHs of fermenting beers daily, following cleaning and maintenance schedule and procedures, cleaning all equipment according to our standard of procedures, following our inventory management practices, and working with other members of the team to ensure all beer produced and packaged is of the highest quality and that the brewery is kept clean, and functional. You will be an essential bridge between Brew Operations and FOH for beer knowledge and participating in FOH and offsite events. A candidate for this position should be hard-working, reliable, attentive, self-sufficient, have great awareness and take ownership over the position to do what needs to be done, follow direction as well as work in tandem with the Head Brewer. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Brew and package beer according to brew schedule and per the Head Brewer
  • Assisting with milling, mashing, and lautering, wort boiling, cooling and transferring to fermenters, racking beer from Fermenter to Brite Beer tanks, and ensuring all brewing processes are recorded properly.
  • Keep Brewing Facility clean and functional at all times
  • Follow Cleaning & Maintenance Schedules and consult the supervisor about cleaning needs, and perform all required cleanings to the appropriate standard including tanks, Brewhouse, kegs and other packaging, packaging line and other equipment as directed.
  • Assist with inventory counts of finished beer, grain, hops, and other raw materials inventory. 
  • Follow inventory procedures for all raw materials, chemicals, beer, cooperage, small parts, packaging, supplies etc. and report deficiencies to the supervisor. 
  • Assist with inventory counts as needed.
  • Monitor quality, temperature, pressure, gravities, pH, DO, and carbonation of beers in tanks, in package, and at the Tap Room on a daily basis.
  • Participate in beer tasting panels 
  • Work with Head Brewer to keep an improvement log on all issues as they develop. 
  • Possibility of representing Schram Haus at various events, festivals and promotions. 
  • Follow all brewery and Schram Haus policies and procedures and follow current developments in local, state, and federal laws applicable to the service of alcohol, safe food handling, health standards etc. 
  • Label all kegs and other package products in accordance with federal and state law using appropriate keg collars, labels and date codes. 
  • Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and on time.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 years of adult beverage, product sales or hospitality experience
  • Ability to secure and maintain a valid driver’s license and auto-liability insurance in accordance with state laws
  • Ability to secure and maintain a State Sales Permit in accordance with state laws

JOB TYPE: Part Time 
REPORTS TO: Taproom Manager

Schram Haus Brewery is a German-inspired production brewery and growing taproom located in Chaska, MN.   The Beertender, under the direction of the Taproom Manager, is the face of our business and plays an integral part in our Guests’ experience.  You will be responsible for ensuring patrons feel welcomed, are educated about our product and industry, and are served quickly and efficiently.  In addition, you will help to ensure our beer is served to our standards and a fun and friendly atmosphere is maintained.

You may be called upon to assist in the setup and execution of special events and private parties hosted at the brewery as well as some offsite events (festivals, fundraisers, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adhering to the schedule and all SOPS set forth by the taproom manager
  • Ensuring Taproom, kitchen area and restrooms are cleaned and stocked before opening and the business is set up for a successful day and maintained throughout your shift
  • Share information and answer any questions about our beer, membership clubs and business (Training will be given)
  • Ensure the beers on tap are acceptable to serve
  • Be able to accurately account for items sold using our Square POS system and cash drawer
  • Be able to enforce any regulations set forth by the Alcohol Beverage Commission and ensure guests are of legal age to consume alcohol
  • Restock inventory as needed, change kegs, and fill crowlers
  • Be able to communicate feedback with management about any suggestions or concerns in a timely manner
  • Stay up to date with any new product knowledge or operations changes and be able to communicate that to guests
  • Work with some kitchen equipment as needed and occasionally prepare food safely
  • Be prepared to work larger events such as Oktoberfest and help promote our brand
  • Help to sell Beer Club memberships
  • Follow all Schram Haus policies and procedures
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Available to work most weekends and occasional weekdays and holidays
  • Prior bartending or customer service experience preferred
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Demonstrate knowledge or a strong interest in craft beer and basic production knowledge ( Certified Beer Server is a plus)
  • Must complete a Schram Haus training program related to our history, product knowledge and taproom procedure
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Positive attitude, friendly, and ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Basic knowledge of a POS system

Schram Vineyards is one of a very few winery/ breweries in the US. We began operations at our winery/brewery in Waconia in August of 2013, and recently expanded a second brewery in Chaska, MN. We have built several wine and beer brands for distribution and are expanding out into the Metro area. March 2021 we are adding our 3rd location which will be AxeBridge Wine Co, and Urban winery in the Minneapolis North Loop area.

What You Will Do
  • Manage a territory consisting of 40-50 accounts with the very realistic goal to grow to 100+ accounts within a year.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of the alcoholic beverage and retail industry, understanding both competitive trends and pricing as well as a thorough understanding of Schram Enterprises products and business.
  • Build successful relationships with key decision makers in your territory, understanding their business needs and strategies
  • Work to achieve and maintain monthly distributions goals within your territory
  • Merchandise Schram product through maintaining shelves, and displays
  • Implement the use of creative point of sale to attract business within accounts
  • Maintain up-to-date weekly and monthly reports as well as keep track of inventory within individual accounts

Responsible for the maximizing sales of local wine and beer brands represented by the company on and off premise to retail customers in an assigned territory by direct contact, and prospecting new accounts.
